Cookie Policy

This page explains exactly which cookies and local-storage mechanisms Solitaire Publishing uses, why, and how to turn them off. For the wider privacy picture, see the Privacy Policy.
1. What a Cookie Is
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores in your browser. When you come back, the browser sends the cookie back so the site can remember something — a preference, a session, a measurement identifier. Related technologies used on this site include localStorage (used by the game logic) and pixel tags inside ads.
2. Categories We Use
Strictly necessary / functional
These keep gameplay working and remember the choices you make while playing. They are set by this site (first-party) and are not shared.
| Name | Type | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
Game state keys (e.g. sp.klondike.state, sp.freecell.stats) |
localStorage | Save the current hand, win/loss stats, best time, current streak, longest streak | Until you clear site data |
sp.theme |
localStorage | Remember whether you selected light or dark mode | Until you clear site data |
sp.daily.* |
localStorage | Daily Challenge history — which seeds you've completed, current/longest streak | Until you clear site data |
Analytics (Google Analytics 4)
Measures aggregate, non-identifying traffic so we can see which guides are useful and which layouts people abandon. Property ID G-JKYFTKF1Z9.
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga |
Google (first-party on this domain) | Distinguishes unique visitors | Up to 2 years |
_ga_<container-id> |
Persists session state for GA4 | Up to 2 years |
Opt out globally with the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on, or block third-party scripts in your browser.
Advertising (Google AdSense and partners)
Google AdSense and its certified advertising partners may set cookies to serve and measure ads and, unless you opt out, to personalize them. A non-exhaustive list:
| Name | Set by | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
IDE |
doubleclick.net (Google) | Ad selection, delivery, reporting | Up to 13 months |
test_cookie |
doubleclick.net | Checks whether the browser supports cookies | Minutes |
__gads, __gpi |
Google AdSense | Ad delivery, frequency capping, fraud protection | Up to 13 months |
| Partner cookies | Various certified ad-tech vendors | Auction participation, measurement, personalization (if not opted out) | Vendor-dependent |
Google's current list of certified advertising partners is published at Google's certified ad tech providers.
3. Cookie Consent for EEA, UK, and Swiss Visitors
If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, Google's EU User Consent Policy applies to ads served on this site. A consent notice from Google may appear on your first visit asking whether you agree to personalized ads; choosing "no" still allows non-personalized ads so the site can remain free. You can change that choice at any time via Google Ad Settings.
4. How to Opt Out or Clear Cookies
Browser-level controls
- Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data
- Edge: Settings → Cookies and site permissions → Manage and delete cookies
You can also use Private/Incognito browsing, which discards cookies and localStorage at the end of the session.
Ad personalization opt-outs
- Google Ad Settings — turn off personalized advertising across Google
- YourOnlineChoices — EU industry opt-out tool
- DAA WebChoices — US industry opt-out tool
- NAI Consumer Opt-Out — Network Advertising Initiative members
Clearing gameplay data
If you want to wipe game stats and streaks on your current device, clear site data for solitairepublishing.com in your browser's privacy settings. This removes localStorage as well as cookies.
5. Do Not Track
Browsers can send a "Do Not Track" header. There is no agreed industry standard for how publishers should respond to it, so most sites — including this one — treat it as informational rather than a binding opt-out. The controls listed above give you stronger, more explicit opt-outs.
6. Changes to This Cookie Policy
If we add or remove a vendor or category, this page will be updated and the "Last reviewed" date at the top will change. Material changes are also reflected in the Privacy Policy.
7. Contact
